Newt?

I received a comment from a fellow photographer (Jim, from Transient Light Photography) a few days ago telling me of a free contest that he is putting on. I took a look at his contest rules and the reason for this contest, and had to laugh at his comment about little boys not being sissy's...

I was inspired to post my own lizard pictures today. These poor little creatures! They are quite plentiful here around our yard, and I have a ten year old little boy who is enthralled with them, and captures them quite often, and does unspeakable things to them( like making them pose, so mom could take pictures). I usually find them and make him release them, but Jim is correct~ their tails really do grow back( wink) ... Anyhow, back to Jim's contest. He would like help in naming the newt that they have chosen for a mascot, if your name is chosen you will be receiving one of his fabulous, and stunning photographs, so click for the complete rules and to enter....Name that Newt~

Thanks Jim for letting me know. I am honored to help advertise this contest, but most of all I am so glad to have it verified, my little boy is NOT a sissy :)

Photos taken 4/19/2008~F5.6~ISO400~1/25~ totally staged, even the background
*Disclaimer* NO lizards were hurt - OK ,NO lizards were "permanently" hurt- during the photo session that resulted in this post

Nice pictures. I'm not sure why I find lizards so cute, but I definitely do.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help, and the time and effort it took to do so, Stacey. Thank you.

I was thrilled to read that your little boy helped you with the subjects of this post. I'll bet he has lots of fun with those critters, and I'm pleased to known that he is NOT a sissy. I'm sure that I would like him a lot.

I've been thinking about that lately. Little boys will be normal little boys if they are allowed to be so, and they will grow up to be real men. Not the sissified, panty-waisted poor excuses for males that I see so much of today. You're a good mom for allowing that. And you're a good photographer too!

Thanks again.
Jim

Oops, I forgot to comment on the smoke photo so I came back.

There was a pretty big forest fire in northern WV a few years back and the smoke filled our air for a couple of months. It made for excellent photography if you do landscapes. That smoke will effect the light to mimic the characteristics and quality of early morning light.

Those forests needed cleaned out too. All too many do-gooders get upset about these things and insist on better forest management. But, fire is nature's way of restoration and renewal--it always has been.

That's a great photo you have there.

NOW I'm off to the salt mine to earn my keep.

Jim

Pappy~ believe it or not, but they really do hibernate when it is cold, either in rock crevases or animal burrows..amazing little critters they sure are.

I think lizards are kind of cute and always stop to watch one in my yard but it doesn't mean I want to touch one. LOL! In fact, had a freak out session when I found one in my house.

These are wonderful photos. Awwwww-sum!

Hi Stacey,

Yeah, I read Jim's comment about "sissys" and thought that would get a few people "going"... All mentioned with good intent, I'm sure...

You know, I live near San Francisco, and I have a few "sissy" friends, and really, they aren't so bad once you get to know them... They may see things differently, but I think there's still enough room in this world for everybody...

And I've got my entry for the newt in, and I'm surely guaranteed to win, so although I wish everybody else good luck, nobody else stands a chance (LOL)...

I really want one of Jim's prints -- and if things go as they should, I'll have it -- no problem (LOL again)

I've just begun making prints on my new 13" Epson R2660, so if I can get my act together and actually sell a print or two I may have enough cash to buy one of yours... --After all, my birthday is coming up at the end of this month (hint, hint)... (LOL again)

Best regards, and keep up the great --not for sissies -- work, Don and Kitty
